Cruda

OLED table lamp.

Cruda, OLED table lamp in contrast with a stone

Cruda is an OLED table lamp, designed in the total absence of decoration: it works by letting the materials speak for themselves, setting OLED high technology against the archaism of stone and its intrinsic beauty. A technique also taught by the Japanese art of suiseki — literally "stones shaped by water" — from which a "clash" emerges, producing an aesthetic that was initially left out of the design process.

OLED stands for Organic Light Emitting Diode: a technology that makes it possible to create colour displays capable of emitting their own light. Unlike liquid-crystal displays — which are lit by an external light source — OLED displays require no additional components to be illuminated, since they produce their own light: this allows for extremely thin displays, even foldable and rollable ones, that require less energy to operate.
