Esagono is a free-standing bookcase in solid wood. The construction principle is based on the particular joint between uprights and shelves: the joint provides extreme stability through a wedge-cone connection, formed where horizontal and vertical elements meet and are fixed with screws.
From the Latin in-castrare, "to cut into." In structural terms, it refers to a connection that prevents any absolute movement of an element (external joint) or any relative movement between two or more elements (internal joint).
In woodworking, the term is widely used to describe connections between elements, and takes different names depending on the type — tongue-and-groove, dovetail, jaw joint, and so on. The construction of Esagono allows for the complete absence of any cross-bracing.
